Ditch the old blacks and whites this season. Blue is the colour on the party circuit, we find.
The colour palette sees a change every season and it’s the B’towners and socialites who lead the way in acknowledging this change. While white has always been a trend for the summer, this season they seem to have set their eyes on a colour that reflects calmness and a sense of royalty — the colour blue.

From style diva Malaika Arora Khan, to Bollywood hottie Shilpa Shetty and fashion icon Sonam Kapoor, they are all swinging towards the blues.
It’s this colour’s loud impactful quality that makes it great for the summers believes fashion designer Sabbah Sharma. Designer Anita Dongre considers the easy adaptability of this colour with other colours to be a reason for its popularity. “It’s a colour that’s fresh and cool and the summer heat can be soothed with the intelligent use of bright and vibrant hues of blue. Moreover, it’s a colour that also blends well into each individual’s style.”
From casual chic to elaborate party wear, blue is definitely ‘in’, with indigo blue being the hottest shade this season. Shades of aqua, turquoise work well for the day and navy, cobalt and deep royals are apt for formal and occasion dressing for evenings.
Designer Archana Kochhar says its popularity is due to its cooling effect. “For evening wear team the colour with a dazzling dosage of solitaires, contrast of white diamonds and contrasting shades of jewels. And for day wear, break an entire blue ensemble with bright pop colours like shades of chilli red, mustard, neon pink and white to show off a funky summer look.” She deems it as a summer friendly shade that speaks of regal glam.

On the other hand though designer Joy Mitra does not believe that a specific colour can rule an entire season. He has observed that the blue shade has become a favourite of many lately. “It works beautifully for the hectic summer days. The popularity of the colour could be partly due to the fact that in this scorching heat it gives the feeling of coolness and partly because of its ability to look good on anyone,” he opines.
And no outfit is complete without the right kind of accessories. “Big bold gold earrings, statement neck pieces and chunky gold bangles teamed with a blue outfit looks great. You can also team it up with a single hued clutch bag,” Sabbah suggests. So this season, go cool it with blue.
